제주도를 대표하는 상징물의 하나인 돌하르방.
화산석 현무암을 정성들여 투박스럽게 표현해낸 조각물이다.
이 돌하르방은 제주도 지역마다 형상이 차이가 난다. 조선시대 행정구역으로 보면 제주목과 대정현, 정의현, 이렇게 3개 지역별로 얼굴이 달라진다.
제주대학교 박물관 앞에 가면 각 지역에서 옮겨온 돌하르방을 한자리에서 구경할 수 있다.
덧붙이면, ICC 제주국제컨벤션센터 앞 회전교차로에 가도 색다른 돌하르방 3기가 자신의 고향(?)을 바라보며 우뚝 서있는 것을 볼 수 있다.

Dolhaeubang is a symbol of Jeju Island, Korea.
They are stone sculptures carved with basalt of the volcanic island.
Each region has its own style. Jeju-mok, Daejeong-hyeon, and Jeongeui-hyeon are those regions in Joseon Dynasty.
You can take a very close look at them in front of the museum in Jeju National University.
You can also go to the rotary near ICC Jeju, where stand three different Dolhareubangs representing the styles of the area to which they look out.
